In ‘Ancestors, Lovers, Kin’, artist Emily Waszak draws upon her Japanese heritage alongside her home in rural Donegal, Ireland to inform the rich tapestry of her craft.
She uses contemporary techniques of large-scale weaving and ancient Japanese Jōmon pottery to convey themes of spirituality, grief and loss.
Weaving together discarded industrial waste textiles with fabric fragments holding deep personal significance, the tactility of Waszak’s work is something to experience up close.
Emily Waszak was selected through an innovative open call to support an Irish artist in presenting their debut international solo exhibition - an initiative developed in collaboration with Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin and Culture Ireland.
